Six key features to avoid on your website

I’m sure you have many ideas considering the design of your website. You want it to match your personality, you want it to bring novelty to this domain and you desire every single creation of yours to be appreciated by your audience. It’s very good to have these desires; however I know that sometimes it is very easy to make a mistake just because you want to be the best in your area of expertise. As a result I thought it would be fantastic if you learnt which are the features you should avoid when creating a website. Some people work best if they know what to avoid and therefore I hope this list will be helpful.

In order to know what to skip out think about the things that irritate you and deny their access on your website. It goes without saying that you won’t fill your website with something annoying and bothering, but you might change your mind if others convince you that these things will get you visitors. It is okay to listen to others, but in the process you should not lose your identity. So, do not make rushed decisions, just focus on your work and pick design features that will only bring advantages to your website.

Unnatural design features

Do not go for something that will make your readers feel strange while using it, because you will definitely make them leave. An example here would be the horizontal scroll bar: it is annoying, it is time consuming and it doesn’t bring much to the design either. Maybe you would like to bring innovation to this world, but you shouldn’t take your visitors by storm, with something completely out of the place. If you want to create new design features, think of something that will enable them to use your website. This will impress and surprise your readers in a pleasant manner and they will definitely come back, because your product has gained their appreciation.

Pop-up images

Those annoying, flashing and irritating pop-up images have got to disappear from your website. They make your readers think that your website is not very serious and as a result they should use something else. Since, you don’t want this to happen you must be careful at your pop-up images. However, one should not consider these being totally pointless; there are some pop-up images which have a clear purpose, such as explaining major changes to your visitors. So, when dealing with this matter you should understand the difference between good and bad pop-up images.

Useless links

Another sign that will make your visitors have second thoughts about your website is the presence of useless links. Here, I am referring to those links that take your readers to pages that don’t exist or to those that are trying to scam your visitors. Once people see something like this on your website you will lose their trust and therefore their willing to access your page. Thus, be careful at these links, because even though they “fill the blanks” they also annoy your readers.

Auto media player

Some believe that it is a good thing to have an auto media player on his or her website, because this will entertain people. But the truth is that this will both irritate and consume their time trying to close the video, which sometimes might take them away from your website. You would better relax and entertain your visitors with some funny and interesting pictures, a nice background, or a very entertaining content. Think of something that will assure the comfort to your clients/visitors and they will always come back to you whenever they need something.

Bad ads

Many people need their ads, in order to keep their website running. But this shouldn’t make them accept all sort of advertisement. The ads of your website should allow your audience to gather they information they need, without being “harassed” by it. I bet you have seen so for those ads that, keep getting in people’s way while they are trying to do their job or which are constantly popping in their eyes. Well, this is what you should avoid, as far as the advertisement goes. Also, try to avoid the ads that make people feel sick or ashamed. Remember that the Internet is used by all sorts of people and if you want to have a wide range of visitors, you should not go for whatever ads.

Inappropriate colors

If one doesn’t know much about colors, then one might make bad decisions in this respect. This means that you must analyze this matter, if you don’t want to end up with something that will hurt your visitor’s eye. Not to mention that there is an entire  psychology hiding behind colors and as a result you should check and see what shade will make your readers feel happy, relaxed, comfortable or on the contrary, sad, annoyed and distracted. Think this issue through, because if you don’t, your entire work will be ruined. Colors are very powerful and they will manage to destroy your web design, if you are not serious about this issue.

In the end you should remember to organize your design features in a manner that will help your visitors use your website easily. Nobody desires to use complicated techniques, but one the contrary people appreciates the modifications that will lessen their work. So, if you want to be original and to create something new, you would better come up with something that will save people’s time when searching new info on line.

Think of simplicity, originality and innovation and your creations will definitely be the best. Do not fill your website with many pictures and videos, or your website will load slowly and as a result your readers will lose their patience. Just keep the messiness away and create the feeling of a clean and serious website and your visitors will have nothing to complain about.
